Chennai Super Kings have won more matches than Mumbai Indians but the momentum seems to be with Mumbai Indians. CSK had a flying start to this IPL but they have lost a bit of matches in the second half which could be a worrying factor. Although nothing matters now as we are into the second stage but right now Mumbai Indians look more settled. Adding to the pain of CSK, Brendon McCullum won't be available for this IPL campaign as he would be a part of his International cricket commitments (New Zealand vs England bilateral cricket series). Michael Hussey who have had great moments with Chennai's team would probably open with Dwayne Smith. McCullum is the highest run scorer for CSK this year (436 runs). Smith haven't got the starts he is used to get but still he has 325 runs to his name.
Middle order for CSK has been a bit fragile if couple of these three (Raina, Faf du Plesis and Dhoni) fail to perform. The good part for this team has been their bowling attack. Their bowlers have restricted oppositions to low totals and defended below par totals also. But at the same time they would be pitted against a batting line up which is already well set. Parthiv Patel is doing a good job up the order with Lendl Simmons. The middle order is rock solid with Rohit Sharma, Ambati Rayudu and Kieron Pollard.
As far as the bowling front of Mumbai Indians is concerned, Lasith Malinga and Mitchell McClenaghan are capable enough to restrict the opposition top order whereas Harbhajan Singh, Jagadeesha Suchith, Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard can do a good job with the ball.
Fielding wise we might give Chennai Super Kings an upper hand. With the likes of Dwayne Bravo, Suresh Raina and Faf du Plessis in the team, CSK has always maintained a high fielding standard.
Head to head this teams are equally matched with 10 wins each. Overall record keeps CSK at a higher spot and not to forget they are two times IPL champions and two times CLT20 champions as well. Mumbai Indians have also clinched the IPL title once.
Let us see what is in store for us in this first qualifier IPL match. We will meet you again in the first elimination - Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Rajasthan Royals (RCB vs RR). Enjoy live cricket streaming on mobile through HotStar mobile app.
